My flower story

Welcome! My name is Jill Bulman and I live in Madison, WI on an acre lot where I grow all of the flowers for my subscriptions and arrangements.

My love for flowers began in 2010 when I researched flowers for my dad to grow for my Iowa wedding. Or maybe it started way before then when I was a toddler and would sniff the peonies and lilacs my mom cared for in our back yard in between creek stomping and playing in the sand box fashioned out of an old farm tractor tire. Or it could have been when I saw the look on someone’s face when they received a bouquet of flowers out of appreciation, love, thanks, or sympathy. The way these living plants express their beauty with form, shape, color, light, and communicate something without words. The finite beauty of them…the joy they bring to the insects, birds, and my kids as we dote on them all summer long. Or maybe it is just being human. Sick of sitting unfulfilled in a cubicle. Or maybe it is in my DNA from my dad’s grandparents who made their way from Germany to become farmers in Iowa.During 2020, I started giving bouquets away to neighbors to surprise them and bring them joy, I unknowingly became known as the Flower Fairy. It was a way for me to still connect with my neighbors, let them know they were still cared for, and to feel useful.

August 2021, my neighbor asked if I wanted to have a pop-up at his bar, Stateline Distillery.

Spring 2022, I started a Flower CSA with my Dentist as my first (and current) subscriber (shoutout to Monroe Street Dental).

Spring 2023, Good Day Shop hosted me for a Mother’s Day event — I sold out in an hour and half!

Fall 2023, Artsy Fartsy asked if I would like to teach a class. I was terrified and we had THE BEST TIME. Also was asked to show my work at the Wisconsin Museum of Art in West Bend during the show BLOOM.

2024, Good Day Shop asked me back! More classes at Artsty Fartsy all growing season long —and ALL SOLD OUT! Partnering with local grower Jill at Haney’s Tavern Flower Farm for more classes and events! First class at Madison Chocolate Company — it was magical.

While I have flowered weddings, my values are anchored in the everyday moments and appreciation for blooms.

Picked with care

My flowers are cut twice a week from my garden to make sure they are always producing fresh, new blooms that last so much longer than the ones shipped from out of state or the country. They are not sprayed with pesticides or herbicides and help support our local wildlife population by attracting many bees, hummingbirds, rabbits, and many other small critters who sustain the owls that live high up in our pine trees.

My hope is when someone holds the bouquets or flower arrangements in their hands they are in awe of the beauty of nature. I hope it is the exclamation to your special event, or a thoughtful way to say, “Thank you” to someone special or even a stranger. I hope these flowers are a part of what makes my community special.
